Community Organizing for LiberatioN

Since Roe v Wade in 1973 that established a right to an abortion prior to fetal viability, states have implemented more than 1,300 abortion restrictions, 44% of which have occured in the last decade alone. In 2021, for the first time, states put in place more than 100 abortion restrictions in a single year, including in PA.

While we help more than 4,200 individuals each year to access abortion, we also work to change the culture and systems that create and maintain these restrictions.

Anti-Abortion Centers (AACs)

Anti-Abortion Centers (AACs)  (also known as “crisis pregnancy centers” or “fake clinics” - but let’s call them what they ARE) use taxpayer money to lie to and manipulate pregnant people considering abortion.

Read this one-pager about AACs to learn more.

We want to shut them down - there is NO place for AACs in our state or anywhere.

PA is the birthplace of Real Alternatives, the large institution that funds AACs.

Download Anti-Abortion Centers: The Harm and the Status of AACs in Philadelphia and PA for a thorough presentation

Check out this recent article in Ms. Magazine about our collective fight against their harms.

Our friends at Expose Fake Clinics share that:

AACs do NOT provide or refer for abortion, nor do they provide non-judgmental options counseling (which, btw, all abortion providers do!).

Yet, they advertise using phrases like "abortion counseling" or "pregnancy resources" to try to trick people seeking reproductive health information  into walking through their doors

Through Google, Yelp and other review sites, you can combat this misinformation.

Take action by downloading this toolkit so that you can take action from home and help pregnant people avoid their lies!

Philadelphia Reproductive Freedom Collective

The Philadelphia Reproductive Freedom Collective (PRFC) is a volunteer-run collective housed under ALF-PA. It is a group of healthcare providers, organizers, abortion funders, and doulas.

*PRFC is currently on a hiatus as we reimagine how this work can be Black-led and centered.

PRFC believes everyone deserves access to safe and affordable abortion care, no matter how much money they make, where they live, or whether they have insurance. PRFC also trusts that each person can and should make their own decisions about pregnancy.

The Collective created a zine about anti-abortion centers (formerly called “Crisis Pregnancy Centers” or CPCs).

Some of you march and rally for abortion access. Marching alone will not increase access to abortion. Fighting for abortion liberation means we must change our culture and ways we talk and think about abortion.
